- On June 6 2023, two anchovy unloaders died by toxic fume inhalation while unloading decaying fish from the Alejandra II. The incident occurred in the port of Chicama in the La Libertad region. Also under investigation was the question of why the vessel was there at all, since the port had been previously closed due to abnormal waves.
