View notes
- Fishing
- Between 2019 and 2024, the Antur likely bottom trawled for 5,975 hours (249 days). Bottom trawling is a fishing tactic in which a vessel tows a net, often hundreds of feet wide, along the ocean floor. Bottom trawling is a particularly destructive form of fishing because of its bluntness: anything in the net's path–including non-target species, coral reefs, and dolphins–is swept up, often fatally.
- Health & Safety
- On December 13, 2021, four people were injured during a fire on the fishing trawler while it was moored in Vladivostok. The fire broke out in the vessel's compartment during welding work. An investigation showed that the fire was caused by a violation of fire safety regulations.
- Labor & Human Rights
- Several people who worked on the Antur complained about the captain’s cruelty and bad food. “Only a small portion of the promised money is transferred to the card,” according to a 2024 review. “At the slightest conflict with the captain or the office, or if one needs to write off from the vessel earlier than six months, you are automatically left without money.”.
Supply Chain
Antur is related to at least three companies downstream, including two ships, and one plant.
