- Fishing
- Government officials from the Comptroller’s office found several instances where harbor inspectors had falsely verified inspections of 18 fishing vessels between January and November 2019, according to a report by Ojo Público. Among the vessels cited were the Macabi 10, Guanay, Costa Brava, and Caribe, all owned by Pesquera Exalmar. The falsified inspections pertained to the renewal of certifications tied to pollution and sewage controls. To receive these certifications, the ships needed to be physically inspected. But the investigation found that the ships in question were either at sea or not in the same port as the inspectors.
- In November 2020, the Caribe, a vessel owned by Pesquera Exalmar, was fined under two articles of the Regulations of the General Fisheries Law by the Ministry of Production for illegally fishing in the Paracas Marine Protected Area and for going too slowly inside a restricted area, a leading indicator of illegal fishing.
