Around 11pm on July 2, 2024, the Jehova Es Luz Del Mundo sank near Morro Sama after abnormally strong waves caused the boat to crash into a rock, which then sank due to an excess load. Of the nine fishers on board at the time, the accident left three crewmen dead and one missing; five survived after being rescued and taken to the hospital by the Peruvian National Police. The ship had set sail without receiving permission as the ports in the area were closed at the time.
