Summary of crew member deaths and potential beriberi cases
The Pavel Kutakhov is associated with at least one crew member death.
Fishing
On January 27, 2021, the Rosselkhoznadzor Department for Primorsky Krai and Sakhalin Region fined the owner of this ship more than a thousand dollars for improperly labelling fish.
Between 2019 and 2024, the Pavel Kutakhov likely bottom trawled for 4,106 hours (171 days). Bottom trawling is a fishing tactic in which a vessel tows a net, often hundreds of feet wide, along the ocean floor. Bottom trawling is a particularly destructive form of fishing because of its bluntness: anything in the net's path–including non-target species, coral reefs, and dolphins–is swept up, often fatally.
Health & Safety
On September 18, 2022, a crew member on this vessel was airlifted to a hospital in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
Labor & Human Rights
On November 23, 2021, a crew member was found dead in one of the cabins while the ship was fishing in the Sea of Japan off the coast of South Korea. His body was taken back home on a carrier ship.
