In December 2024, Marlon Mogollon Jacinto, a second driver on the Rocio, died on board the ship. He fell into the vessel’s lazaretto, or likely a storage locker or small compartment, according to reports. In 2016, the ship’s owner Pesquera Tevimar faced sanctions against Rocio and was penalized for fishing infractions. The ship had previously faced sanctions in 2017 after it failed to comply with fishing regulations.
