- In March 2020, Peru’s anti-corruption prosecutor's office filed a complaint against four Imartpe officials and four fishing companies, including Pesquera Exalmar. The complaint accused the officials and companies of “having manipulated data to "inflate" the size of the anchovy biomass evaluation, and of filtering scientific information allegedly from four industrial fishing companies that are members of the National Fisheries Society.” Recordings reviewed by the prosecution “allegedly show that the supposed biomass of 8.3 million metric tons of anchovy estimated by Imarpe officials in reality would not even have reached four million.” An investigation into the matter was closed in December 2021.
